Let’s dive in to the 2022 Champions Sprint Runner By Runner analysis, with prices brought to you by BaggyBet.

1- Nature Strip (12) - $2.10

J: J. McDonald

T: C. Waller

Defeated in the Everest but I feel his run was just as good as the winners. Did a mountain of work early and was kept wide throughout proceedings and still looked the winner 200m out. It’s been an unconventional preparation for him with the Europe trip but third up is where he peaks. Straight track form is brilliant and draws the right side of the track. Strongly believe he will show us why he is rated the worlds best sprinter here.

2 - Masked Crusader (11) - $26

J: D. Thornton

T: M, W & J Hawkes

The horse just looks completely cast at the moment and disinterested in racing. Begins slowly and and hasn’t been taking part in races at all. It will take some training performance to recapture his previous seasons best but I doubt that’s going to happen here.

3 - The Inferno (1) - $101

J: J. Allen

T: C. Brown

Has been cursed by bad luck since arriving in Australia from a great career in Singapore. Been kept fresh for this and would need to get somewhat back to his best to be placing here. Looks a tough task being drawn poorly again.

4 - Rothfire (8) - $26

J: L. Nolan

T: R. Heathcote

He was solid in the Manikato Stakes really injecting pace into the race early and holding on gamely for second. He will need to improve off that to get close to Bella Nipotina and Nature Strip but getting on top of the ground will help. He looks a class below the top rung of sprinters but most of these are the B graders. Can sneak into a place but won’t be winning.

5 - Paulele (9) - $18

J: B. Avdulla

T: J. Cummings

Was absolutely steamed late in the Manikato before putting in a near career worse performance. Did pull up with excuses there and now comes to a track where he has failed on both occasions he has been here. He wasn’t far off the big guns in the TJ Smith though and blinkers being applied for the first time could see further improvement which is required. His best is capable of challenging this but it doesn’t look a great set up to me.

6 - Front Page (3) - $26

J: B. Melham

T: G. Duryea

His had an injury interrupted career but on his day is a serious talent. Was first up off a long spell and with a big weight and was too good for his Kosciusko rivals and ran similar time to the Everest on the same day. Big test and jump up in grade but has previously run well down the straight before.

7 - The Astrologist (10) - $91

J: N. Rawiller

T: L & T Corstens

His a tough on pacer who loves the straight but this looks a bridge too far this time round. Not going as well and been comfortably held in all his runs so far in lesser grade. Looking around.

8 - Baller (5) - $41

J: M. Zahra

T: T. Gollan

He is an honest campaigner but this is one of his stiffer tests he has faced in his career. Twice has been up the straight knocking off Roch N Horse first up, then was competitive with that horse again and Private Eye. He will need to improve to get near them here.

9 - Bella Nipotina (4) -$6

J: J. Kah

T: C. Maher & D. Eustace

The Maher & Eustace team have got this girl in career best form. Put the writing on the wall when defying the track pattern and sitting 3-4 wide the trip in the Moir, only to go down to her stablemate in the better ground. Then demolished rivals in the Manikato in a career peak rating. She’s faced Nature Strip once in her career and he put 4.5L on her in this race last year but she’s a much better horse this time round. Slight knock is the draw with them likely coming to the outside by race time. She’s a leading contender.

10 - September Run (13) - $31

J: D. Oliver

T: C. Waller

Thought she was okay in the Manikato Stakes in the inferior ground but was in a different league to Bella Nipotina that day. The straight track suits and drying conditions will see improvement but doubt its enough to turn the tables on the winner and her A grade stablemate.

11 - Roch N Horse (6) - $26

J: J. Mott

T: M. Moroney

Returns to the scene of her big boil over in the Newmarket Handicap. Hasn’t won so far this preparation but she’s acquitted herself well and brings Everest form to the race. Wasn’t far off Private Eye in her latest. She will need to go to a PB to win but she loves the track and the track conditions improving should help. Place chance.

12 - Levante (14) - $26

J: M. Dee

T: K & B Kelso

Hasn’t been seen since running very well down the straight in the Newmarket Handicap. She was in the inferior ground, outside group and was clearly the best of those in that pack. No trials to go off but she’s undefeated first up and run some decent figures. Her form lines through Entriviere and Roch N Horse back home look strong to run a bold race here. Would have liked to see her once before this assignment but is a place chance at her best.

13 - Argentia (15) - $26

J: T. Clark

T: A & S Freedman

Have the Freedman’s finally figured out which is her best distance? Has now won twice over the 1200m down the straight and posted a new PB on ground that she is less effective on. Again will need to improve to be in the finish here but she’s drawn wide which is a plus and the drying conditions will be a positive. Wouldn’t shock to see her in the multiples.

14 - Giga Kick (7) - $4.80

J: C. Williams

T: C. Douglas

Could he be the next superstar of the Australian racing? Went to a massive new level in the Everest and is improving every time he steps out on course. Think he needs to peak again to beat Nature Strip after he had a much tougher run in transit. Been down the straight twice and won, so that will pose no issues. He comes out of the best form race and is one of the leading chances here.

15 - Lofty Strike (2) - $51

J: C. Newitt

T: J. Sandhu

Think this blue blooded colt has a very bright future ahead of him. Came in off a long lay off and has put two strong performances on the board on ground I doubt he enjoyed. Draw isn’t ideal and is meeting the elite sprinters for the first time. Has a future but will need to go to a whole new level here.

  1. Nature Strip ($2.10)

  2. Bella Nipotina ($6)

  3. Giga Kick ($4.80)

  4. Argentia ($26)
