Enough waffle, let’s get stuck into the 2022 Might and Power, with odds provided by BaggyBet.

1 – Zaaki (7) - $4.60

J – J Kah
T – A Neasham

He beat non winner Icebath first-up in The Tramway at Sydney, then was bested by Alligator Blood in the Underwood at Sandown, despite starting $2.70. His SP profile makes him close to a bet every time at this price.

2 – I’m Thunderstruck (1) - $6

J – M Zhara
T – M Price & M Kent Jnr

Absolute flying and was unreal in the Memsie, savaging the line before winning again in the Makybe Diva. He started favourite against many of these in The Underwood, but couldn’t catch Alligator Blood and Zaaki. The question punters need answered is two-fold: will he get the 2000 metres, and will he be better suited at Caulfield?

3 – Alligator Blood (5) - $6

J – T Clark
T – G Waterhouse & A Bott

This Waterhouse and Bott gelding could very well be undefeated this preparation. He wasn’t suited in The Memsie, and went too quick in the Makybe Diva - despite almost winning. He was strong in The Underwood and is very hard to knock. Will make his own luck on speed.

4 – Mr Brightside (4) - $14

J – C Williams
T – B & JD Hayes

The forgotten horse… nothing ran on in The Underwood and he has the tactical speed to utilise the good gate, here. Williams is flying and making great tactical decisions, just look at his ride on Keats last Friday night.

 5 – Mo’Unga (6) - $12

J – D Oliver
T – A Neasham

He flew home in The Underwood despite being unwanted in the market. He maps awkwardly from barrier five but has the GOAT steering… risking.

6 – Nonconformist (2) - $61

J – J Childs
T – G Begg

He is ticking over nice enough and is suited up in trip again but these will be too sharp for him.

7 – Anamoe (3) - $2.30

J – J McDonald
T – J Cummings

He is the best horse in Australia, maybe the world. He has ticked every box again this preparation and added to his arsenal too, he now has tactical speed which from barrier three he can utilise. The only chink is the lameness reported post race after his dominant win in The George Main Stakes (Group 1). He is proven at 2000m at the highest level and will be incredibly hard to beat.

8 – Benaud (8) - $21

J – D Lane
T – J O’Shea

Missed a run last week due to trainer error, now comes to Melbourne and steps right up in grade. I think more a look at Caulfield in regard to a Caulfield Cup than a genuine winning chance.

2022 Might and Power Tips

The race is a great Group 1, and it should be a really tactical affair early as they jockey for positions. Jayne Bunn predicts some rain from now until Friday, Saturday should be clear. Caulfield can throw up an on pace bias and has been know to be a bit laney I expect a moderate tempo & horses from on pace to midfield to be best suited.
