Enough waffle, let’s get stuck into the 2022 Thousand Guineas, with odds provided by BaggyBet.
1 – Russian Conquest (1) - $8
J – J Kah
T – P & P Snowden
Started favourite in the Jim Maloney Stakes which five of these come through. Wasn’t suited and was home in the second fastest sectionals of the race. Jamie Kah sticks and the horse goes from barrier 12 last start to barrier 1 here, expect it improves a lot and goes very close.
2 – Revolutionary Miss (10) - $20
J – M Zahra
T – P & P Snowden
Plain last start, Mark Zahra replaces Jye McNeil. Hasn’t come up this preparation but does have some good stats at Caulfield.
3 – She’s Licketysplit (5) - $4.60
J – D Lane
T – A Forsman
Comes from the Group 2 Edward Manifold where she was well backed and won with authority. Started favourite vs Boogie Dancer in the rain the start prior. Drawn to get a beautiful passage and looks hardest to beat.
4 – Boogie Dancer (6) - $3.40
J – L Nolen
T – P Moody
She will be almost four weeks between runs, off a good win on a rain soaked Caulfield deck in the Thousand Guineas prelude. The wetter the better and from barrier six there shouldn’t be any excuses. Three starts back she beat Berkeley Square. She’s two-from-two at Caulfield.
5 – North Star Lass (2) - $5
J –C Williams
T – P Moody
A proper blue blood this girl, her mum Stay With Me won this race and daddy is a big boy sire, I Am Invincible is more know for his up-and-go sprinters but this girl has thrown more to her mum, both her wins (last 2 starts) have been beyond 1200m, 1300 and 1400m. From a good barrier with a rider upgrade she’s right in this.
7 – Madame Pommery (4) - $8.50
J – J McDonald
T – C Waller
Only won once and was $15 when she did. Cannot win.
8 – Moko (11) - $26
J – B Melham
T –A & S Freedman
Kah off, Melham on. Still a maiden and wasn’t suited at Flemington last start behind She’sLicketysplit. But, surely not.
9 – Jenny Jerome (9) - $26
J – H Coffey
T – P Payne
The sneaky line chaser from the Sandown race, The Jim Maloney. Race fastest last 600m. Harry Coffey and barrier 9 dosnt’t help. Risking.
10 – Tajneed (8) - $13
J – D Oliver
T – P & P Snowden
There’s no form yet from it’s maiden win, Ollie rode her then and jumps back on here, thats about all the positives I could find. No.
11 - She’s Pretty Rich (7) - $101
J - B Higgins
T - M Brown
Unlikely to be competitive, let alone win.
2022 Thousand Guineas Tips
The race is a proper Group 1, and it really should be a case of the best horse wins. Jayne Bunn predicts no rain till Wednesday night. This race can throw up a genuine superstar and we think it might be a Kiwi this time.
