Enough waffle, let’s get stuck into the 2022 The Everest, with odds provided by BaggyBet.

1 – Nature Strip (12) - $2

J – J McDonald
T – C Waller

The champ, he took on the world and beat them and now he returns to defend his crown and make uncle Chris even richer. Nature Strip (Stripe to the Poms) comes into his title defence second up, he has been second-up nine times and only won twice. He will be almost a month between runs after bashing them in the Group 2 Shorts. He beat a number of key rivals that day, He’s the king but has the shaky record second-up.

2 – Eduardo (9) - $12

J – N Rawiller
T – J Pride

He’s going as good as ever and enjoys the sting out, he started $4.20 in last year’s Everest and holds a very respectable record versus Nature Strip.

3 – Lost And Running (7) - $7

J – H Bowman
T – J O’Shea

Spoken about as if he’s up and coming, the new talent on the scene. He is six-years-old, he’s been handled by the big boys time and time again. Lay.

4 – Masked Crusader (10) - $13

J – W Pike
T – M, W & J Hawkes

Chases lines harder than Charlie Sheen, but unlike Charlie, Masked Crusader often isn’t the first one to hit the line. He has phenomenal closing speed, if the track’s suiting get back and run on horses well maybe, just maybe, this bloke can win.

 5 – Mazu (11) - $16

J – S Clipperton
T – P & P Snowden

Comes here third-up as a four-year-old and the genuine Group 1 horse who’s fresh on the Everest scene. He can win. He swims, he handles soft and he’s really fast. He needs to go to that next level but is that age and in the camp that makes it a chance of happening. Value play.

6 – Private Eye (3) - $15

J –B Avdulla
T – J Pride

A really good miler who bashed up some B graders last start down the straight at Flemington. No

7 – Overpass (6) - $31

J – R King
T – B Baker

His last win was in an Inglis restricted race at Flemington. No.

8 – Ingratiating (4) - $41

J – G Schofield
T – J Cummings

The Sheik isnt an fan of The Everest by the looks, this isn’t even their fourth best sprinter. No.

9 – Joyful Fortune (1) - $71

J – T Sherry
T – M Newnham

The claim for this race to be a Group 1 is hurt by horses with a 77 rating being in it, I hope the connections enjoy the day.

10 – Shades Of Rose (8) - $71

J – K McEvoy
T – B Baker

Honestly, no no no. Embarrassing.

11 - Jacquinot (2) - $10

J - D Lane

T - M Price & M Kent Jnr

The most exciting horse in a pretty boring race, $15 million field hasn’t really delivered too much and all of it bar this horse we’ve seen time and time again. He’s a get back charge home horse, he won The Golden Rose beating Golden Mile. That horse won the Caulfield Guineas last weekend, so the forms standing up. Pattern pending, he can win.

12 - Giga Kick (5) $26

J - C Williams

T - C Douglas

Unbeaten three-year-old who’s taken all before him. This is a huge step up for him, his trainer and Willo. He will only carry 53kg and be up on speed, a heavy track is a big unknown. Risking.

2022 The Everest Tips

The race is a let down. It’s the same old veterans who we see race each other every other carnival going to battle again. The tracks under seige, raced disgrafefully last weekend and more often than not in recent memory it’s let “participants” down. The BOM predicts upto 6mm of rain on Friday which could well turn it into an on pace dominated swamp again.
